Nutrition courses in line counterparts

No difference between college-level learning materials online or in person, at least in nutrition.
Knowledge acquisition and implementation of the class, better than the other, whether you are looking at the screen or a professor in the flesh, according to a survey published Tuesday in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior.
"Online nutrition education is a growing trend, because it is all online education. It can be effective, can be satisfied, said:" Nancy Cohen, author of the study and Head, Department of Nutrition University of Massachusetts A Muhe Manchester.
Three nutrition professor at the University of Massachusetts introduced the 929 peer-reviewed research results, satisfaction with the courses on nutrition and selected nine-line analysis of key words in a systematic search to determine which articles to meet their standards.
Based on their assessment of the nine marketing and management courses, course design and delivery, effectiveness, knowledge and performance of students, student satisfaction, motivation and perception.
"We know that many people do not know - not online education? Is not as formal education?" Cohen said. "There are a growing number of online courses, more and more students, more than ever, they and the [enrollment] growth faster than traditional university courses."
With the nationwide increase in the reliability of technology routine tasks, she said she believes that online registration can be attributed to economic recovery. While many people aim to save money to live off campus, there are a lot of people want to change jobs, re-equipment, she said.
The nine studies carried out by using a quasi-called scientific method, known as convenience sampling. Different samples of the most scientific, the students can not be randomly assigned to take college-level courses, must be observed, but not in their chosen course.
Cohen and her colleagues found little evidence of e-marketing nutrition class, it is clear that the rapid development of online teaching methods in the past two decades. 90 20th century, most instruction occurred in the e-mail, web and video. Later research into the discussion board, a more advanced course management system and some face to face interaction.
Although the results showed no difference in achievement between students of knowledge or face to face and online courses, student satisfaction is mixed.
"Many people feel uncomfortable in a room full of peers that they, or close to the teacher. Online discussions or chat sessions allow people to more carefully develop their own prior statements or ask questions, share them with others, said:" Jeremy Birnholtz professor, associate professor at Cornell University who specializes in online interaction.
But there are some tradeoffs. Trust and relationships are difficult to develop and mature take longer online, and to increase flexibility means it can more easily multi-task, or to be distracted, said Birnholtz, who was not involved in the study.
